The Bf109 was a truly amazing warplane of WWII, and had a steady speed of about 452mph, thanks to its one 1175hp Daimler-Benz DB 601 Aa 12 cylinder Inverted-Vee engine. Used by the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain, it was faster, and more agile then the more well known spitfire, and shot down a lot of enemy aircraft. But, to the German’s surprise, Britain got a clear victory. Probably the best aircraft at the time of the Battle of Britain, the 109 also wasn’t that lucky. In the Battle of Britain alone, out of 1,100 aircraft, some 650 aircraft were shot down. The 109 was actually preferred by pilots, even though the Focke Wulf 190 was out! The Bf 109’s wingspan was 32ft, 4.5in, and the length was 28ft, 1in. What a classic WWII German fighter.
