The first fighter to have jet engines, the 262 was truly amazing. With two Junkers 1,984Ib thrust Jumo 004B-1 turbojets, the 262’s top speed was about 540mph, faster than any other fighter at the time. The 262 was amazing. A devastating top speed, 4 cannons, and air-to-air rockets. Work on this revolutionary plane began in September, 1939. The first prototype flew with a single propeller. Then, they tried the jet engines. They liked the jet engines! So, when it got to the frontlines, the 262 pilots scored major victories. But, a lot of American pilots were noticing that the 262 was not very maneuverable! So, they also got a lot of victories! Against the 262s! But, the 262s destroyed how many allied planes? 542. That’s a lot! Well, this fighter jet’s wingspan was 40ft, 11.5in, and the length was 34ft, 9.5in. So, there. That’s Me 262.
